November 5 The Navy Region Midwest encompasses a 16-state area including North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri. They provide coordination of base operating support functions for operating forces throughout the region including providing expertise in areas such as facilities and land space management, exercise coordination, housing, environmental, security, family services, port services, air services, bachelor quarters and logistical concerns for the thousands of Navy members and their families in the area. November 6 From its Founding in 1911, Naval Station Great Lakes has maintained its position as the Navy's largest training facility with more than 25,000 military and civilian personnel working, training, and living here. The current Recruit Training Command is under-going a dramatic recapitalization program that has created a premiere training environment that is unmatched. Millions of dollars have been spent on modern barracks, dining facilities, classrooms and office buildings. Fifteen service schools are sited at Great Lakes. All Navy recruits are now trained here, both men and women. Naval Station Great Lakes truly is a place of challenge and excitement. |
